Cornwall Hill College is a co-educational, independent school situated in Irene on some 25 ha of idyllic, country-like surroundings. We pride ourselves on providing a safe environment and welcoming atmosphere. We are looking for a professional Chef with a friendly attitude, and the ability to multitask, to serve in our School’s Food Division. In this position, you will be responsible for the preparation of a wide variety of cuisines for both adults and children of all ages. We are a large school, with multiple phases on one campus, and the job can be fast-paced with little downtime. THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL:

  • Collaborate with the Tuckshop manager on menu items
  • Be essential to the successful operation of a large-volume food service facility, ensuring that quality, tasty food is prepared in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Be skilled at executing recipes as well as managing time and quantities effectively
  • Work as part of a team and may have a variety of roles within the kitchen, such as prepping ingredients, cooking, packaging meals and cleaning and delivering on campus.
  • Maintain food temperature and cleanliness. Adhere to health and safety regulations and HACCP protocols.
  • Need to be able to work in a fast-paced environment, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Assist with inventory control, stock takes and reporting guidelines.
  • On occasion be available after hours or on weekends if required.

THE FOLLOWING QUALITIES AND ABILITIES ARE ESSENTIAL:

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • A food related qualification (with duration of at least 1 year)
  • Clear criminal record
  • Previous experience and/or training in a large volume production kitchen environment
  • Be well organised and energetic and take initiative in managing the kitchen
  • Have the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Be resourceful and pro-active when issues arise
  • Multitasking and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks
  • Excellent command of the English language – spoken and written
  • 3+ years in a kitchen environment
  • Understanding of different culinary profiles and techniques
  • Capable of following instructions without variation
  • A desire to learn new flavours and techniques
  • The capability to work safely, efficiently and neatly
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends when required
  • Excellent organisational skills
